Colour combinations of orange calendula and purple sage (salvia purpurea).

The rose bed and arbor. The virginia creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia) has now grown to the top of the arbor. We're hoping for next year's growth to provide a more vine-like appearance.

This beautiful campenula has just begun to bloom.

The lavatera has finally burst on to the scene.

This year's lavatera seed was a mixture of pink shades and white. Compared to the previous photo, this one we call 'lavatera light'.

Another one of my sister Julia's introductions, this phlox paniculata is also just beginning to bloom.

The rock garden is filling in. The ornamental cabbage adds colour and interest.

The apples are continuing to develop. We're down to a total of about 46 apples on this young tree.

This bed of bachelor buttons, new delphiniums and a variety of petunias has done quite well in front of the shed and greenhouse.

Only two of the ornamental cabbage have grown to their full size. These were planted near the cedar (Thuja occidentalis) where they probably benefited from the high nitrogen fertilizer.

We're not great fans of plastic flamingoes in the garden, so these two remain rather inconspicuous (although intimate) behind the bachelor buttons.
