No fun making our way around Frankfurt airport trying to find the gate for our departure to Amsterdam, but we finally found it just before our boarding call. It was a one hour flight to Schiphol airport in Amsterdam. Then on the train to Hoogeveen, with transfers at Amersfoort and Zwolle. We got to Hoogeveen at 1:30 pm and were met at the train station by cousin, Hero Moorlag. A short drive to the home of Hero and Marty, and we could finally relax.
Unbelievably beautiful weather here!! Daytime temperatures of 25 C. Lovely sunshine.
Here is a photo of Hero and Marty's house.
Today we went to the shopping square in downtown Hoogeveen. Someone's idea of artwork is to erect a sculpture of a shopping bag in the square.
So, Susan shopped! She bought a pair of sandals (because it's so warm), and a very lovely wrist watch, right here in Hoogeveen. Hero says I've spent all my money the first day, and now I don't have to worry about any more shopping.
Of course, Holland would not be Holland without a cheese shop.
Also, it would not be Holland without the bicycle, a very common mode of in-town transportation. And, what about the architecture of the old buildings?
Canal and locks.
