Apeldoorn

Sunday, April 29, 2007

Today we made the trek to HK's birthplace - 24 Rustenburgstraat, Apeldoorn.

We had some difficulty finding the house because at one end of the street an apartment complex has been built. We feared the house may have been demolished to make way for apartments.

However, it turned out that the houses had been renumbered and the house was still standing - beautifully restored - and is now Rustenburgstraat 224.

Our next visit was to the Royal Palace - Paleis Het Loo (pronounced 'low', and not to be confused with going to the 'loo').

The palace is now largely a museum, open to the public.

The gardens are truly awesome. Dad Moorlag worked here when he was studying to become a horticulturalist.

Two rows of tall beech trees line the entrance to the palace. This creates a park-like setting, ideal for families to enjoy a picnic before or after visiting the palace.
