This evening we were treated to a wine tasting at a local wine producer. As we arrived, another group was just leaving and one of them happened to be a local artist who, by his own description in broken English, is very famous. The wine producer was very patient as we had a mini art show in the driveway out of the artist’s car. We were actually so taken by the paintings that we bought one of the paintings. Darryl bought one, too.
Then came the wine tasting. The producer took us into his wine cellar where we sampled a number of wines, all of which had a much higher alcohol content than what we’re used to with the wines available at home. Kevin and Ranata settled on a Chardonnay for the wedding.
Once we, and the wine producer, got to the giddy stage with the wine tasting, he had to show us one ‘specialty’ after another. This ranged from various liqueurs to brandies, and then a walk to one of the back cold rooms were he showed us meat that had been hanging for up to 4 years for his famous proscuito.
Back home we snacked on an assortment of fruit, bread and meat.
The ‘drama’ came when we were wondering why we hadn’t seen ‘Fred’, the cat. Hank jokingly commented that it was interesting we hadn’t seen the cat since we closed in the floor of the deck. After a more and more frantic search all over the house and property, this theory started to get some serious attention. We pulled up one of the floor boards of the deck and, sure enough, ‘Fred’ emerged. By that time it was 9:00 pm, and he had been closed in the deck since about 4:00 pm. A short time after his liberation, he was back to his normal self, playing and exploring.
