Pretty Redpoll in Flight

I spent a bit of time near the bird feeder this evening with the camera. Fitted with a 300 mm lens, film speed at 800 ISO and a shutter speed of 1/500 th of a second, I managed to freeze this little female redpoll in flight as she's approaching the feeder 'on final', as they say in aeronautical terms. If you click on the photo and view it in the larger format, you can see the catchlight from the low sun in her eye. She's a perfect specimen.

On the other hand ....

Here's a little redpoll that will have trouble getting aloft. Now, we're not exactly saying we overfeed our birds, but some - like humans - don't know when it's time to stop eating.

What awsome little birds. To see a moment captured like this is wonderful. Thanks.
