Just when we thought winter might be over ...

At 11 o'clock this morning Kerry Lyle pulled up with his bobcat to remove about 10 inches of hard-packed snow from the driveway. I told Kerry he's living my dream - operating his own bobcat as a sideline. In his 'serious' life he's a real estate agent.

Anyway, as Kerry gets started with the snow removal the sun is shining and the temperature is at about 0 degrees C. We talk about how soon the residual ice and snow will be gone from the asphalt.

An hour and a quarter and a hundred bucks later, Kerry is loading the bobcat back on the trailer and the snow starts falling. Fifteen minutes later we're in the middle of a snowstorm, followed by a full blown blizzard. By three o'clock things let up enough for us to go downtown for some shopping. But first I have to shovel about four inches of snow out of the driveway - and throw it up over the 8-foot snowbanks on each side of the driveway that Kerry had built up with the bobcat.

Here's a photo taken from the front of the house when the snow first started to fall.

Click on the photo for a larger image to see the snow falling, and the height of the snowbank on this side of the driveway. Click the 'back' button to return.

More shoveling the next morning. It's a workout throwing snow up and over this snowbank.

We've got a bet on when this snow will melt. Susan says some of it will still be here in June. I say the first week of May it will be gone.
