Snow Sculptures

Our annual winter celebration is the Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous, held this past weekend.

See: http://www.yukonrendezvous.com/index.php

Part of the activities include a snow sculpture competition. Here are some photos from the end results:

This is a rather whimsical take on the 'Iron Horse', the early native reference to the steam locomotive.

This sculpture is of the 'North Wind' getting ready to blow down a passerby.

Here is the winning entry, the 'Snow Queen', dropping snow flakes to the ground from her hand. Her castle has towers capped with ice forms. These small ice formations were made by pouring water into a balloon until it froze enough to form a shell, which was then placed on the tower.

To view the sculpture's detail, just click on the image for a full-screen view. Don't forget to click your brower 'back' button to return here.

Wild horses come charging out of this sculpture. Awesome!!
