Salzburg - Day 2

Very nice breakfast at the pension. An older man who may be the co-owner, acted as the 'breakfast marshal' - directing everyone to certain tables with brisk instructions. He created an environment where we were almost afraid to take too much of the breakfast fare for fear of being reprimanded. We thought he may have retired as master of the Spanish Riding School in Vienna.

He actually turned out to be very friendly, and was quite chatty with us as we were leaving. All the Austrians we spoke with could only comment on the cold in Canada, and how that would not be for them. Even the lady who checked us out of the room groused about how cool it was this morning. It was just perfect for us - bright sunshine and about 12 C.

After breakfast we walked across the bridge to St Peter's church. Turned out there was a parade of people in period Austrian dress, pulling a small cannon along. Why they were doing this early Saturday morning, without a whole lot of people around, is a bit of a mystery. But it was great we happened across it, just the same.

Off to the side of the square was an internet café, so we could check our messages. We also moved digital photos from the memory cards to the travel drive.

Walked back to the pension and checked out. Walked to the bus stop at Mirabelleplatz and caught the bus to the train station.

Train to Munich. Had lunch at the Munich station, then took the train to Stuttgart. A bit of confusion at the Stuttgart Haufbanhof (main station - notice how the German terms are slipping in here?), when they changed the scheduled platform for the train to Heidelberg. But, we got on fine.
