Reflecting on our trip to Croatia

We’ve been back home for a couple of weeks and back into our normal routines.  Funny how we came from three weeks of intense heat – mid thirties Celcius most days, and a couple hitting the 40 degree mark – and then return to a Yukon autumn with daytime temps of 12 – 15 degrees and frost overnight.  Autumn colours are everywhere, where the leaves aren’t off the trees altogether, and there’s ‘white stuff’ on the mountaintops. We’re in denial, so we just say there’s a dusting of icing sugar on the tops of the mountains.

It was an awesome vacation, and we are indebted to Renata for introducing us to this beautiful country.  We’ll never forget our visits to Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar and Zagreb.  The Dalmatian Coast was every bit as lovely as we had heard it was.  Could have spent a whole lot more time in Zadar, which was our favourite spot.

But nothing could beat the wedding in Popovača.  Building the wooden deck and pergola as a place for the ceremony was a stroke of genius – it was just perfect.  And the ceremony itself was beautiful.  Reverend Bev did a wonderful job of putting everything together, including her work with Robert who translated into Croatian.  It was very moving.  Kevin and Renata were obviously enjoying the moment.

And what fun we had at the reception.  We had been warned that it could be an all-night party, and it was.  Great food and non-stop dancing.  What a treat it was to see Renata in her element, dancing to the Croatian music and songs so familiar to her.  The band was amazing!  Very LOUD, but amazing.

It was a memorable trip.  Since our return we’ve been busy putting everything we collected into a scrapbook.  And photos are already loaded into our electronic photoframe and the slideshow reminds us of everything we experienced.
